Winterfest's Neon Night NYE Celebration

Like the ending to a great and possibly corny romantic comedy, Neon Nights NYE Celebration at Winterfest brings movie quality magic to the end of your year. Maybe it was a good year or maybe it wasn’t. Either way it’s a perfect excuse to get out and celebrate. This family-friendly event takes place in the center of downtown in Kiener Plaza. From now through New Year's Eve, enjoy Winterfest from 12pm - 8pm every day.

In 2015 Kiener Plaza was remodeled, and at the time, it was quite controversial. Many people loved Morton D. May Amphitheater with its grand steps and cascading water fountains they had grown up with. However, the area could not hold as many people for different types of events. It was also restrictive for many who could not scale the steps. Some thought the auditorium was looking worn and dated as well.

Winterfest is making great use of the newer level lawn and paved areas of the park. The area also has a fenced-in nature-based playground kids love. The city kept the statue of “The Runner” by William Zorach which was donated to the city along with money for the plaza from the olympic track team member Harry J. Kiener upon his death in 1960.

The event for New Year’s Eve begins at 4 p.m. As the day turns to night you'll be surrounded by the glittering windows of the city, the glow of The Arch, Old Courthouse and holiday lights. Party decor, 3-D glasses and glow products will be given out. You can get your groove on or off the ice with some great tunes from the DJ. Check out the food and drink trucks and make some S’mores. Wow your kids with princesses, superheroes, and fire dancers. There are plenty of photo opportunities. Salvation Army’s Tree of Lights makes for a grand photo; the most fun is the MegaLux 360 Booth, just don’t fall off or get run over by the camera!  Get ready to share hugs and kisses with your loved ones during the simulated countdown concluded with a fireworks display. All done and wrapped up by 8 p.m.

To really hit the mark on that Hallmark film experience you’ll want to rent an igloo. You have the option to make it extra special with upgraded packages for birthdays, holidays, or champagne-appropriate occasions.
