Tips on How to Make a Great New Year’s Eve Dish

For this month’s edition of “In the Kitchen with Sarah,” I thought I’d show you an easy appetizer recipe since New Year’s Eve parties are right around the corner.

Impress friends when you drop by their function with a tasty bruschetta dish. The best part of this snack: It can be whipped up in about 15 minutes or less with just five key ingredients.

Crostinis. You’re welcome to bake crostinis yourself, but I stop by Deerberg’s and grab premade ones—they’re lightly buttered, ready to go, and delicious!

Olive oil. This is for brushing/drizzling over the crostinis before they bake.

Parmesan cheese. An asiago-blended parmesan is a great way to get some extra flavor.

One package of cherry tomatoes. For the video example, I went with Cherub brand.

Pesto. Again, an element you can make from scratch, but the Classico brand at Deerberg’s does the trick.

Bacon. My little pro tip: The best, crispiest bacon is when you preheat the oven to 400 degrees, put the strips in a pan with aluminum foil, and stick them in the oven for roughly 10 minutes. This method is quick and cuts back on greasy messes in the kitchen.

Here are the steps to follow:

Cut up the tomatoes (I usually choose to quarter them) and chop up your cooked bacon.

Take all the ingredients you have so far (pesto, cut tomatoes, and the cooked bacon) and put them into a bowl. Sprinkle a bit of parmesan cheese on top for pizzazz.

Mix everything together in the bowl. Next, drizzle the olive oil over the crostinis, then throw them into the oven for about five minutes at 400 degrees.

After you pull your crostinis out of the oven, scoop up the toppings mixture you created in the bowl and put it on each crostini.

For extra convenience, you can create the toppings mixture beforehand but wrap it up and finish prepping the crostinis there at the holiday party.
