Up and Coming Fox Park

Fox Park in South St. Louis is one of the city's up and coming neighborhoods. Being a City Historic District, it contains homes and buildings in the grand styles of Italianate, Second Empire, Eclectic Revivals, and Arts and Crafts. Locals say neighbors are nice and the area is fun. Home prices have a median of $212,149 with average rent at $898.

Fox Park has transformed quite a bit. In the 1990’s the non-profit community development group DeSales had begun buying properties that were vacant. They remodeled them and turned them into affordable units for rent. DeSales focused on the worst areas of the neighborhood. Now, many homes are being remodeled and new businesses are coming to the area. The Koken Apartment Building just opened its doors last fall. 78 units were built in the renovated Koken Barber Supply Company warehouse that includes all the amenities that cater to city living, such as a bike room, gated parking, pet-friendly amenities, and package concierge. Amazing spaces here include a rooftop deck, co-working spaces, and resident lounge.

More support in the area comes in the form of a career development center for women, Rung.  They provide educational, professional, and financial services to women. Founder Ali Hogan says the purpose is to go beyond surviving to thriving. Their president Lesie Gill was named one of St. Louis Magazine’s women who make St. Louis great.

Although it’s a smaller neighborhood, Fox Park is home to some very popular venues such as Little Fox Restaurant and Coffee Stamp. Little Fox serves sophisticated foods inspired by brooklyn bistros and other travels. They made the New York Times list of America’s Favorite Restaurants, 2023 Best 100 Restaurants in St. Louis and Craig Rivard was awarded chief of the year in 2022 by Feast magazine. Coffee Stamp was started as a micro roaster by two brothers from Honduras. They wanted to bring the best coffee beans from around the world to their shop and now it is a full service coffee bar that also serves delicious South American foods like empanadas.

Fox Park is a walkable area and tucked in the middle of other great neighborhoods that offer additional exploration close to home. There is a dog park and playground. There are youth sports teams. There are art camps for spring and summer break. There is an active and welcoming neighborhood association here working towards the future.
