This beautiful little community, a suburb of St. Louis, and the Metro area sits just on the other side of the Missouri River off of Highway 364 and completely surrounded by green space, trails, parks, and beautiful little lakes.
Cottleville is home to about 5200 residents were 83% on their own homes. It's considered one of the oldest cities in St. Charles County working to preserve and enhance its historic downtown area home to shops, businesses, churches, grocery stores, pubs, restaurants, and over 200 acres of parks.
Getting its start as far back as 1800 where a small group of houses located near the spot where Old Boones Lick Road crosses Dardeene Creek today, Cottleville, first settled by Capt. Warren G Cottle was founded in the late 1700s and early 1800s. It became a stagecoach route over which travelers and mail were transported to and from various areas around St. Charles County and beyond. In the 1850s, a Timber Plank Road was built from St. Charles westward along the road as far as Cottleville known as Western plank Road. During the Civil War, Cottleville was the location of a famous recruiting camp named Camp Krekel.
Over the years, Old Town Cottleville has retained the best of its past and a distinctive center for the community. Over the last 10 years, streetscape improvements were made to 5th St., Main Street, and Chestnut Street. The area is about 4.5 mi.² with a population of just over 3000 and the home to St. Charles Community College. The Tony Glavin Soccer Complex is one of the main landmarks in the area where you can take in a St. Louis Lions soccer game.
From the center of town, you can enjoy fantastic restaurants, shops, and explore our unique Historic Missouri Wine Country. The small vibrant downtown makes you step back in history and enjoy the beautiful brick architecture, great shops, and historic Frenchtown considered a community of creatives along historic Main Street. You'll find antique shopping, artisan coffee, museums, Driftwood Music, and the Public Art Company.
Cottleville is served by the Francis Howell school district featuring a total of 23 schools and over 17,000 students. There are several schools in town such as the Howell Central High School, the Sager middle school, and the Warren elementary school. The St. Joseph Catholic school is also located in Cottleville for grades kindergarten through eighth grade.
